Project CLIMA Leads Iligan Community in Strengthening Climate Action Through Bayug Island Activity

Iligan Community Joins Project CLIMA for Stronger Climate Resilience Efforts

Project CLIMA, an initiative centered on Community Empowerment, Leadership of Women in Climate Action, Inclusive Sustainability, Mitigation and Adaptation Practices, and Advocacy for Climate Justice, successfully led a hands-on climate resilience activity in Bayug Island on November 16, 2025. The project was spearheaded by Jaypee S. Yongco from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension and brought together students and community partners for active participation in mangrove area restoration.

The collaborative undertaking highlighted the growing commitment of Iligan stakeholders to environmental protection and long-term climate adaptation. Participants were seen working directly in coastal waters, tending to young mangroves and contributing to shoreline protection efforts that help buffer communities from climate-related risks.

Strengthening Climate Leadership in Iligan

The activity was conducted with strong support from the Gender and Development Center, the National Service Training Corps, and the LGU Hinaplanon. Their involvement underscored the unified commitment to advance climate action in Iligan through community-centered and inclusive approaches.
