Mindanaoan Choral Artistry on the National Stage
The 24-member Octava ensemble performed under the direction of choirmaster and artistic director Ernesto “Bajo” Zaldua Jr., whose leadership guided the group through the rigorous preparation and competition process.
Their success reflects a wider mission to:
- Elevate Mindanaoan choral artistry in national platforms
- Uphold and celebrate Filipino musical heritage
- Inspire young artists from Iligan and across Mindanao to pursue excellence in the performing arts
Institutional and local government support played a crucial role. The Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology, led by Chancellor Atty. Alizedney M. Ditucalan, LLD, provided vital backing throughout the ensemble’s NAMCYA journey. The City Government of Iligan likewise extended key assistance that strengthened Octava’s preparations and participation.
Together, these partnerships underscore how coordinated support from academe and local government can help Mindanao-based talents gain recognition on national stages.
Support Iligan and Mindanao’s Rising Musical Talent
Residents, alumni, and music advocates are encouraged to continue supporting MSU-IIT Octava Choral Society and other local ensembles as they represent Iligan and Mindanao in future cultural events and competitions. Continued encouragement, sponsorships, and audience engagement will help sustain a vibrant choral community and open more opportunities for young Mindanaoan artists.
