Mindanao Strengthens International Partnerships Through Korea Mission

The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) launched its outbound mission to the Republic of Korea with a high-level dialogue centered on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, and resource development. The initiative brings Mindanao’s strengthened peace and stability to the forefront of regional economic discussions.

Key Messages from the Opening Meeting

During the mission’s opening engagement, MinDA Chairperson Sec. Leo Tereso Magno met with Congressman Kim Jong Min of the Korean National Assembly to reinforce Mindanao’s readiness for deeper partnership. Secretary Magno emphasized:

  • Mindanao’s transformation into a peaceful and opportunity-driven region
  • Strong prospects in agriculture, natural resource development, tourism, and trade
  • Appreciation for Korea’s continued support through KOICA
  • MinDA’s interest in strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation

Congressman Kim Jong Min echoed these insights, acknowledging Mindanao’s shift from past conflict perceptions to a landscape marked by development, stability, and investment potential. He highlighted:

  • Trading opportunities built on Mindanao’s abundant mineral, agricultural, and fisheries resources
  • The importance of human resource exchange with Mindanao’s skilled workforce
  • Korea’s commitment to fostering regional prosperity through Asian cooperation
