Mindanao Agriculture and Connectivity Take Focus
Cagayan de Oro City Hall, through CAPOO, rolled out two major planning frameworks during a stakeholder meeting this week: the City Agricultural and Fishery Mechanization Plan (CAFMP) and the Farm-to-Market Road Network Plan (FMRNP), both covering the 2025-2028 period.
The CAFMP outlines targeted investments in modern farming and fishing equipment designed to:
- Improve productivity and operational efficiency
- Reduce labor costs for farmers and fisherfolk
- Increase the overall value of agricultural products
The plan also identifies gaps in localized logistical support, aiming to strengthen coordination between the city government and its partner institutions to better serve farming communities.
Complementing the mechanization initiative, the FMRNP prioritizes the construction of concrete farm-to-market roads, particularly in far-flung upland barangays. These road projects are intended to:
- Connect rural producers more directly to urban markets
- Lower transport and logistics costs
- Improve market access for agricultural goods
Together, the two plans position Cagayan de Oro as a key contributor to Mindanao’s broader push for modernized agriculture and improved rural infrastructure, reinforcing linkages between food producers and growing urban centers.
Strengthening Regional Food Systems and Access
By aligning farm mechanization with road network development, Cagayan de Oro’s plans support long-term agricultural productivity, food security, and inclusive growth across Mindanao, while highlighting the city’s role in regional development and cooperation.
